The government has announced a consultation to open up opportunities for towns and cities to bid for new university campuses and centres of Higher Education. In the last five years 17 new HE centres have opened or have had funding committed. The government now wants to accelerate the pace of development and aims to have 20 more centres opened or agreed over the next six years. The initiative is part of the government’s inclusion agenda to take HE to local communities, many of whose members wouldn’t normally access HE. The consultation will be led by HEFCE.
