Pearson Education Australia is trialing an SMS service with RMIT University in Melbourne which enables students to access administration information – such as class times and examination results – any time, anywhere. The trial continues until the end of July.
The service – called Trigger – responds to requests for information sent from a mobile phone by using key words such as ‘lecture‘ or ’tutorial’. The information returned includes lecture times, room numbers and required reading. Reminders on examinations, assignments and other work due, as well as assessment results, can also be obtained.
It remains to be seen whether this is a one-off confined to Australia. But globally Pearson is increasingly active in the technology area of educational services.
