Informa’s Academic and STM publishing business increased sales by 12% to £201m in 2007 with adjusted operating profit up 24% to £62.9. In the same period its Humanities and Social Sciences business recorded sales up 19% to £138.5 and adjusted operating profit up 26% to £34m.
Subscription sales, which now represent over 60% of Informa’s publishing revenues, account for 80% of the publishing division’s adjusted operating profit. Books, largely in the academic sector, account for approximately 30% of publishing revenue.
Taylor & Francis, the academic publisher which merged with Informa in 2004 and constitutes the largest business within the company’s publishing division continues to perform well in the academic library market. Over 90% of subscriptions to Informa’s 1,500+ academic journals are now digitally delivered, together with improved margins.
Overall, Informa reported revenues up 9% to £1.13 billion and adjusted operating profit up 19% to £261m. In 2007 Informa spent £599m on acquisitions.
