The Times has launched a programme called ‘Engaging Minds’ which it hopes will help it compete against Education Guardian and the TES. To participate in Engaging Minds teachers have to register to receive an email each half term letting them know about upcoming education-related features in The Times, The Sunday Times and their website The Times Online. Linked to each theme will be an activity pack that teachers can request, the first of which relates to Ancient Egypt.
This is a smart move because it allows the newspaper to drive its links with events like the exhibition ‘Tutankhamen and The Golden Age of the Pharaohs’, for which The Sunday Times is the ‘Official Newspaper Partner’. The exhibition starts this month at the O2 (better known as the Millennium Dome) and runs until August 2008, after which it will then move onto Dallas. As an added incentive, schools can also win prizes related to each theme/event.
