Personnel to education for the new TES editorLike all VC firms, Charterhouse Capital Partners is sweating the TES hard and this has seen an exodus of the tiny amount of independent editorial and journalistic talent that remained after the reign of Exponent Private Equity. To shore things up the TES has appointed Karen Dempsey as its new Editor. Ms Dempsey looks to have little if any background in educational journalism, although her last position was as the Editor of that exciting and well-known tome, Personnel Today, winner of the coveted award Interactive business & professional magazine of 2006, owned by ex-educational publisher Reed Elsevier. Dempsey will not be in post until January 08, a long time in VC terms, and by the time she gets her feet under her desk at the TES’s new offices in Red Lion Square who knows what direction the company may be taking? Apparently Chaterhouse wants to develop the TES into a B2B publication, interesting as that’s what it looks like already, with the exception of its ridiculous consumer magazine, which we like to refer to as Grazia lite. One of the beneficiaries of the endless restructure is the Russell Group headed up by Dr Wendy Piatt, who has nabbed Mandy Garner, the former news editor at the TES Higher Education Supplement, as her new press officer. www.charterhouse.co.uk |
