Last month we wrote about 3P Learning’s money-back KS2 SATs Guarantee as being a first in linking payment to results. What we overlooked were companies like PTC Corporation who give their ProEngineer CAD CAM software free to schools and universities, and have done so for several years. What’s interesting about this approach is that if your product is an industry standard, then embedding your products with students, particularly tertiary ones who are about to enter the workforce, is a smart marketing idea. PTC have recently extended their free software offer to Indian schools and universities. A recent US study suggests that India is likely to become a major design and manufacturing hub for low cost vehicles. Hopefully, the cars that come out of India will be a step change from the hugely popular Ambassador, which is still being manufactured, based on the 1948 design of the Morris Oxford!

Perhaps 3P should offer its software to all students studying for their PGSE or to teachers who do maths tutoring on the side?

SAM Learning have also just started to offer a money back guarantee for their online GCSE product for the home market and this marketing technique looks set to become more common in education.
