Many catering companies see the education market in much the same way mariners view the Bermuda Triangle (dangerous and you can go under).

It’s therefore a bit surprising to see a company for whom education is big business. Harrison catering not only have the schools’ contract in places like Bexley, Wandsworth and Lambeth, they also recently won the £12m three-year catering and vending contract at the University of London.

Privately owned, Harrison has a turnover of more than £32m and employs 2000 staff. On their website they claim their success is down to:

  • independence
  • having long term perspective
  • realistic profit expectations
  • the ability to attract and retain staff.

It might not sound like rocket science but this simple recipe seems to be working for them.
