We were pleased to receive an email announcing the ‘new sponsors’ of the Teaching Award (TA) for Teaching Assistants was none other than the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).

Yet another case of a quango masquerading as a charity getting its funding from government (in this case the DCSF) via one of its real quangos (the TDA).

The TA may do a valuable job, however we believe in calling a spade a spade. That the Charity Commission allow this charade while pillorying the charitable status of independent schools, shows just how politicised this whole area has become. A new report from the Economic Research Council will make awkward reading at many quangos and reinforces our story from last year about the enormous growth in the spending and scope of Non Departmental Public Bodies.
