STAR AwardsNord Anglia (NA) have also won Learning and Skills Beacon Status and the STAR Awards for the Quality Improvement Agency. Both of these awards structures have excellent intentions, but the reality is that educational awards are seen as boring (even by those who have been nominated) and perhaps worse, as irrelevant by many working in the sector. NA’s main challenge won’t be administering the applications and judging process, but in making these two awards interesting and relevant. One strategy would be to emulate the Teaching Awards annual TV ‘spectacular’, but given the cost and the audience of two people and a cat, this isn’t probably the best way forward. The public support the idea of education awards, but don’t want multiple boring events sponsored by educational bodies with obscure three letter acronyms like the QIA, QCA, LSC, TCA, or OFA. Having one set of awards, one set of administrators and one budget would be a far better approach, but it won’t ever happen, which is fortunate for companies like NA. www.nordanglia.com |
