GEMS and Edison are working together in Abu Dhabi to deliver a contract under a programme called School Improvement Partnership (SIP). While CfBT and Nord Anglia are also involved in SIP, it’s interesting to see that Edison are looking to expand in the UK. They recently won a £1m contract to help manage Salisbury School in Enfield, while GEMS is reportedly trying to exit the market by selling its portfolio of UK independent schools.
Might it be that GEMS, who say they will consider joint ventures and franchising of schools, and who describe education as ‘a recession proof industry’, might be looking to exit the UK market via a JV, or some other arrangement with Edison?
