Recent media reports indicate that only a small percentage of UK schools have developed a School Transport Plan. If the DfES, government and lobby groups were serious about this issue they’d ditch the token gestures and actually do something substantive – like introduce a national yellow school bus scheme. We have asked the DfES and Department for Transport to comment on this issue several times, but so far our requests have gone unanswered. It seems as if publishing documents like the Eddington Report is the government’s preferred method of avoiding making real decisions about tough issues like transport policy.
