The DfES’s new supersite Schoolsweb, originally due to launch in 2005, is now running over two years behind schedule. Xansa are building the £12m site as part of a larger £27m contract to build eChannels for Directgov and the Department of Health. Delays and cost blowouts are par for the course for most large civil service IT contracts, but this one, which is supposed to rollup sites like TeacherNet, GovernorNet and The Standards site is now not expected to be fully live until the end of this year. It was only a couple of years ago that the DfES spent a large sum on Teachernet, making it into the main education site by rolling up several other DfES websites.
