While Michael Stevenson’s departure was announced some time ago we thought it worthwhile to reflect on his significant impact on UK education. He was the primary architect of the BBC’s Digital Curriculum (now BBC jam) a controversial project that led to his resignation from the BBC and subsequent appointment to various senior roles at the DfES, where his last post was as Director of Technology.

While officially he has left to pursue other interests many in education believe he was eased out of the DfES (by mutual agreement) after various internal restructures left him without a suitable role. It will be very interesting to see where he turns up next and education is certainly a possibility, but if someone was giving odds the short money would probably be on a media or large IT company, with the long odds punting on him appearing at one of the larger Non Departmental Public Bodies.
