Go to any education-related event and you will be sure to hear someone describe Ruth Kelly as ‘the worst Secretary of State for Education in living memory’. But is she really and what can be done about it? Well the assignment recently spoke with an authoritative source who said he expected the end of Mrs Kelly’s reign as SOS will to be announced at the Specialist Schools and Academy Trust Conference (23-25 November, International Convention Centre Birmingham).
The same source said that Kelly’s replacement will be former Schools Minister David Miliband, who will be charged with implementing the Tomlinson 14-19 reform agenda, effectively shelved during Kelly’s tenure.
