The trust, announced by Ruth Kelly, has been constituted but only as an interim structure with the main trust expected to be operational by the summer. Dame Suzi Leather has been appointed as the interim Chair and will be supported by chef and food consultant Rob Reeves and headteacher Chris Dean. Inspectors from the Office of Standards in Education (OFSTED) are now going to be inspecting schools for the tough minimum standards that an expert panel is due to deliver by September. Presumably, the companies recently awarded light touch inspection contracts from OFSTED, will now have these amended to include school meals.

To date there have been no announcements of industry appointments. The trust is due to receive £15m in funding from the DfES. Some of the £5.5b Building Schools for the Future 2005/6 funding will go towards upgrading kitchens in secondary schools.
