On the last day of the month Pearson slipped out a late press release announcing they had acquired Chancery Software Ltd and PowerSchool (from Apple). Both are major players in developing Student Information Systems (SIS) and hold the number two and three spots in the market (after Pearson) SIS systems are a growth segment of the US education market as schools try to improve standards as part of President Bush’s No Child Left Behind programme.

The link between Apple and Pearson is on worth watching as earlier this year they collaborated to put digital versions of Pearson’s textbooks onto the low-cost Mac®mins for Californian schools. Apple’s press release about the PowerSchool deal also announced that Pearson would be working with Apple to make Pearson’s educational content available via iPods.
