Earlier this year the DfES announced that Granada Learning was to be one of the sponsors of the North Liverpool Academy, along with Liverpool University and the philanthropist Stanley Fink. There had been speculation whether the impending sale of Granada Learning might see the company withdraw as if they remain they will have to pay part of the £2m sponsorship.

When we asked Granada about this issue spokesperson Danielle Morgan replied, ‘Granada Learning has been involved in the North Liverpool Academy for over two years, together with the University of Liverpool. We will remain actively involved with the Academy following the sale of the company’. She also noted that in addition to their sponsorship Granada Learning ‘will ‘also provide other resources to the Academy, such as bursaries to the University, summer schools, teacher training, books and ICT resources’. This must be welcome news for Ruth Kelly and Lord Adonis, as the Academies programme can ill afford to lose another private sponsor.
