Ruth Kelly’s recent promise of more than £680m (up to 2008) for out-of-hours provision in schools sounds like a huge new business opportunity; but is it? There will be opportunities for some private sector organisations like Planet Sport, but the bulk of the funds are expected to be channelled via the voluntary sector. Of the £680m, £430m will be given to directly to LEA’s with £250m going directly to schools.
