Since the early 1990’s, the Joint Information Services Committee (JISC) has procured electronic information resources for FE and HE institutions. With a turnover of £10m, JISC has become a significant player in negotiating with publishers over the fees for and development of new digital content and the adaptation of backlist material. Given the robust debate about fees and open access to electronic information for the HE/FE sector, the new part-time Chair JISC are seeking will need well-honed political and commercial skills.
