As part of their strategy to retain and attract new teachers to the profession the government have allowed teachers 10% of curriculum time off to plan prepare and assess – known as PPA.

To give all primary school teachers this time off will cost the 20,000 primary schools in England and Wales at least £400million.

While this will be a budgetary nightmare, many Headteachers it will also be an opportunity for others to enrich their curriculum by out sourcing specialist subjects such as sport, drama, music, and languages.

However delivering PE in the curriculum requires full-time quality coaches and this is just important at the grassroots, if we want to deliver basic physical literacy and ensure our children travel all the way from the playground to the podium in 2012.

Companies like Planet Sport, who will be seeking to fill the demand created for outsourced PE provision in primary schools, will have to work cooperatively with schools, local government and national governing bodies, to pull together the available public and private funds, to ensure the future health and sporting success of our nation.
