School fundraising

Often overlooked in the debate over educational funding are the fundraising activities of schools themselves. According to the DfES, secondary schools raise on average over £220,000 p.a. with the figure for primary schools running at close to £35,000 p.a. These figures have naturally brought various arguments about the adequacy of school funding, however what is unclear, is hat is this huge sum actually spent on?
