VT are a key art of the MC3 consortium (along with BAE Systems, Flagship Training and Carillion) bidding for the MOD’s Defence Training Review. While no decision has been made by the MOD there are only two consortia bidding for the bulk of the work (approximately £10b), MC3 and Metrix (QinetiQ, Nord Anglia, Raytheon, Land Securities and EDS).
VT have recently confirmed that the Managing Director of their shipbuilding business is to be the CEO of the MOD’s Defence Future Aircraft Carrier project. In defence circles this has led to speculation over whether the move may have any impact on MC3’s bid. The second part of the tender, which covers non-engineering trades, intelligence, policing, languages and logistics, is being fought over by Metrix and the Holdfast consortia (Mowlem, Babcock International and WS Atkins).
